Done with Doctors

As in I'm sick of them. After 5 trips to Averly's doctor in a week and a half and numerous shots, drugs, and the verdict seems to be she didn't need all that shit in the first place. So the pulmonary specialist at OU Children's asked us a ton of questions from diet to sleep habits. He checked vitals, reflexes, and listened to her breathing. He reviewed the results from her xrays. "Well, I don't want to run tests on a healthy baby." What? "She's fine. She seems to be thriving" But what about all this shit we've been giving her and worrying about? "When a child is in daycare, she'll get 8 to 9 upper respiratory infections a year." What? Thats it? "You can give her antibiotics that may or may not work. Could be viral, could be bacterial. She can inhale some of her formula while she's eating cuz she's so young. That can cause fluid in her lungs. I can do a bronchoscopy and one of her airways may be weak and we can yadda yadda yadda but she'll just outgrow it anyway. And we can't diagnose asthma until she's three which she will more than likely have." Seriously? That's it? "Yes, one of you can quit your job and stay home with her or just have a sick kid several times a year." Huh. "I want to see her again in two months with a clear chest xray." Ok. Have a nice day. So we a left a little pissed off. Yes, we're happy she's healthy and all. But all that shit we her go through before was for nothing. I felt like the guy was basically like "why are you here wasting my time". Sorry dude, we didn't make the appointment. We decided we're not taking Averly back to the doctor unless she's had a fever of 103 or more for two days. Seriously, I'm done with doctors.

  1. I remember an STD scare I had once... gave me drugs that restricted me to be in the direct sunlight... come back in a week to 10 days and we'll tell ya what you got.

    a week later.
